Sunflower (Ibihwagari) Project Phase II

Goal

The project’s goal is to improve the resilience and livelihood of smallholder sunflower farmers in Rwanda while ensuring the sustainability of the sunflower value chain in a win-win manner for both producers and processors.

What we do

  • Starting July 1, 2026, the project will expand activities into districts of Ngoma, Gisagara, and Nyanza.
  • Key performance indicators include:
    – training of 8,000 farmers in Good Agricultural Practices
    – cultivating 3,000 hectares under improved management, and
    – achieving a productivity of 2.5 T/Ha
  • These efforts are projected to deliver:
    7,500 tons of raw materials to processors
    generating more than €1,5 million in net income
    production of 2,250 tons of sunflower oil and 3,375 tons of animal feed
